James Alvin Jarreau passed away on April 25, 2024 at the age of 77. A loving father, son, brother, uncle, and friend was a native of Erwinville, LA and resident of Livonia, LA. He was drafted and served in Vietnam, receiving a Purple Heart pinned on him by General Westmoreland and personally handed him a letter of commendation. He fought in the Battle of Suoi Tre LZ Gold in which he was wounded and lost close friends in the battle. Throughout his work years as a welder, employee of WBR Parish, City of New Roads Police Department, and heavy equipment operator, he never met a stranger. He loved to “ride the road” and could never sit still for long. His love for our Lord was great and he shared his faith with all he met. He is survived by his wife, Vikki Triola Jarreau; sons, Damian Jarreau (Nancy), Travis Jarreau, and Jeremiah Jarreau; stepdaughter, Kristin Smith (Mike); grandchildren, Angela Jarreau and Victoria Jeffrey; siblings, Yvonne Chenevert, Frances Simon, Frank Jarreau, Michael Jarreau, and Roland Jarreau; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Doris Jarreau and infant daughter, Angela Theresa Jarreau. The visitation was held at New Life Worship Center in New Roads on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. conducted by Pastor Jimmy Babin. Interment followed at Louisiana National Cemetery in Zachary, LA. Pallbearers were Damian Jarreau, Travis Jarreau, Frank Jarreau, Michael Jarreau, Roland Jarreau, Larry Chenevert, Paul Simmon, and Brett Jarreau. The family would like to give thanks to Pointe Coupee Healthcare, Louisiana War Veteran’s Home, and especially to Janice Batiste, his caregiver.
