Alcide “Al” Louis Dubea, a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and greatgrandfather, passed away in the early morning of Thursday, June 20, 2024. Al was 86, an Avoyelles Parish native, and long-time resident of Pointe Coupee Parish. He was born in Marksville, LA on March 26, 1938 to Wade Joseph Dubea and Azelia “Hilda” Tassin Dubea who precede him in death. Al is survived by his wife of 62 years, Cheryl Ann Debetaz Dubea, his sister Betty Brouillette, his brother Earl Dubea & wife Judy, his three children - son Wade Dubea II & wife Marjorie “Marty,” son John Dubea, and daughter Jane Chenevert & husband Shannon, his seven grandchildren - Sarah, Kaitlyn, Hunter, Aaron, Rachel, Charlie, and Andrew, his six greatgrandchildren - Jade, Kannon, Briggs, Sutton, Karson, and Amelia, and honorary Dubea family members, Paula Guidry and Jim Jarreau. New Roads natives still fondly recall “Mr. Al” and his family restaurant, Mr. Deb’s. Al was also a familiar face in the community while working at Ducote’s Auto Parts, Feed Service, and Bergeron Pecans. Friends and patrons could always count on his embodiment of welcoming Cajun camaraderie and commitment to a job well done. Around town he was “Mr. Al,” but at home he was “Daddy” and “Papa.” Al was always ready to support his family in any way he could, from mowing a lawn, cooking a meal, or offering advice and comforting conversation. Family always looked forward to holidays at Al and Cheryl’s house, where he could guarantee good food, hilarious stories, and wonderful memories that his family will continue to cherish. Visitation followed by a funeral mass was held in New Roads on Tuesday, June 25th, 2024. Visitation was from 9:00 a.m, to 11:30 a.m. at Niland’s Funeral Home, 210 Westend Dr. Mass began at 12:00 noon at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 348 W. Main St. Graveside service followed at False River Memorial Park, 2110 False River Dr. Friends and family are invited to gather at St. Mary’s Church Parish Hall following the graveside service. Pall bearers for the service are Hunter Grezaffi, Andrew Grezaffi, Aaron Chenevert, Jim Jarreau, Tyler Sedotal, Taylor St. Romain, Duane Jewell, and Eddie Bergeron. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Al’s daily caregivers and to everyone who has loved and cared for him and will continue to cherish his memory.
