Board of Control
February 11, 2026
Call to Order
Melissa Hymel, Library Director, called the general business meeting of the Pointe Coupee Parish Library Board of Control to order at 5:29pm.
Roll Call
Present: Mrs. Kristi Doucet, Mrs. Philomena Fontenot, Mrs. Grace Hebert, and Mr. Greg LaCour
Absent: Mrs. Kate Roy
Library Board Restructuring
The following individuals were nominated to serve in the capacity of President and Vice President of the Library Board of Control:
President – Mrs. Grace Hebert.
Vice President – Mrs. Philomena Fontenot
It was moved by Mr. Lacour and seconded by Mrs. Doucet to accept the nominations as presented. Motion Carried.
Mrs. Hebert assumed the position of President and continued the meeting under her guidance.
Approval of Agenda
It was moved by Mrs. Fontenot and seconded by Mrs. Doucet to accept the agenda as presented. Motion carried.
Approval of Minutes
It was moved by Mrs. Fontenot and seconded by Mrs. Doucet to accept the minutes of the Budget Hearing held November 12, 2025, as presented. Motion carried.
It was moved by Mrs. Doucet and seconded by Mrs. Fontenot to accept the minutes of the General Business Meeting of November 12, 2025, as presented. Motion carried.
Public Comment
No public comments.
Librarian’s Report
Library Director Melissa Hymel presented a review of the current financial statement. Items were reviewed and clarified for new Board members.
The 2025 Employee Attendance Report was presented and will be forwarded to the auditor.
Mrs. Hymel reminded all Board members that a copy of their Oath of Office needs to be maintained with the Library Board minutes. All Board members were asked to provide their most current contact information to update Library Board files.
Mrs. Hymel introduced Mrs. April “Happy” Garret and Mrs. Tiffany Brue to the members of the Library Board.
Mrs. Happy is responsible for all library programs and advertising such programs. This includes both Summer Reading activities and the School-Year Storytimes conducted throughout the parish. Mrs. Garret is a state-certified instructor and has attained the necessary credentials to work in all types of school systems as well as with daycare populations.
Mrs. Brue is the Deputy Librarian and oversees the Library operations whenever Mrs. Hymel is out of the office. She has served over 25 years with the Pointe Coupee Library and her leadership with both staff and the general public is greatly appreciated.
President’s Comments
Mrs. Hebert thanked all Library Board members for their service and dedication to our library system. She read a letter from retired Library Board President Wylene Hurst in which Miss Hurst stated, “it was her pleasure to serve the citizens of Pointe Coupee Parish for the last 33 years and to provide them with on of the best library systems in the state.” Miss Hurst will be missed and her numerous contributions to the improvement of our library will forever be remembered.
Adjourn
Being no further business to come before the Library Board, it was moved by Mrs. Fontenot and seconded by Mr. Lacour to adjourn. Motion carried. The President adjourned the meeting at 6:14 pm. The next scheduled meeting for the Pointe Coupee Parish Library Board of Control will be Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
