CITY OF NEW ROADS CITY COUNCIL
REGULAR MEETING
May 5, 2026
The New Roads City Council met in regular session at 5:30 o’clock P.M. Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at the City Hall in New Roads, Louisiana. Mayor Theron Smith called the meeting to order. A roll call resulted as follows:
PRESENT: James Hunter, Cleotha Johnigan and Kirk White
ABSENT: Joy Nelson and Kurt Kellerman

There were no public comments.
Consent Calendar – Approval of Minutes of Regular Council Meeting of April 21, 2026
The minutes of the Regular Council meeting April 21, 2026 were submitted for approval.
The reading of the minutes was waived.
Motion by Mr. Hunter and seconded by Mr. White.
RESOLVED, That the minutes of the Regular Council meeting of April 21, 2026 be approved in their entirety.
Committee Reports
Mr. White reported that the Public Works committee met on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 to discuss the options relative to assessing liquidated damages to the contractors on the water sector project.
Mayor’s Report
Mayor Smith reported that an old capital outlay projected designated for an Industrial Park has been re-classified to fund electrical work in the city. The amount is $1,000,000.00.
He also reminded everyone of the National Day of Prayer observance at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 7th. In the event of rain, the observance will be held at the Mill.
Vibes on False River every Friday in the month of May and the kiosk to be installed at City Hall within the next eight to ten weeks.
With no further business to come before the council, the meeting adjourned at 5:55 p.m.
