How does one begin to show the appreciation and gratitude to the city of New Roads and the surrounding communities? On Sunday afternoon July 17, 2022, our world was turned upside down with a phone call saying that our son, Travon “Joe Monkey” Smith, had fallen from extreme heights from his bucket truck while cutting a tree. Our hearts stopped! With our knees bent and blood pressure elevated in those few seconds, and not knowing much more than the information we had just received, mom and brothers jumped in the car heading to the accident, while dad rushed to catch the quickest flight out of Salt Lake City, Utah.

MORGANZA – Morganza senior citizens celebrated the Fourth of July by wearing their fanciest hats and coolest sunshades. This was their first “Hat Day” and “Cool Sunshades Day” celebration under the direction of the Pointe Coupee Council on Aging in Morganza.

Ask Leon Dixon what it takes to live a long life, and he will say it’s simple. It’s all about clean and healthy living, hard work and spirituality, according to the New Roads resident, who celebrated his 104th birthday Saturday.

False River Academy brought home both individual and team awards from the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) camp the week of June 23 in Foley, Ala. All of the schools present learned cheers, chants and a camp dance.

A total of 23 artists were honored at the 12th Annual Petite Gallerie competition, part of the Treasures of Pointe Coupee Art Exhibit. The Petite Gallerie, part of the Arts Council of Pointe Coupee event, showcases postcard-size submissions by artists and photographers of all ages.

Susannah Johannsen, executive director of the Louisiana Division of the Arts, served as honorary judge of the 12th Annual Petite Gallerie. This miniature exhibit offers individuals of all ages and artistic levels an opportunity to present their creativity.
