John 'Johnny' Lane Ewing, 71, passed away peacefully at his home in New Roads, Louisiana on April 9, 2025. Born on December 12, 1953, in New Roads, Louisiana, Johnny was a hardworking businessman, community member, and devoted family man. Johnny was a member of the first graduating class of False River Academy and later graduated from Louisiana State University. He worked alongside his siblings and father to establish LA Express convenience stores. He later developed Satterfield’s on False River and purchased and redeveloped Tiger Truck Stop. His dedication to serving the community and creating local employment opportunities was recognized when he received the SBA Small Business Person of the Year award.
Over the years, Johnny contributed to his community through service on the Pointe Coupee Chamber of Commerce, Pointe Coupee and City of New Roads Planning and Zoning Commissions, and the False River Airport Commission. He also served on the boards of Guaranty Bank, False River Academy, and City of New Roads Main Street. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth 'Betty' Hebert and James Ewing, and mother-inlaw Genevieve Glaser and father-inlaw Charles “Puddin” Glaser. He is survived by his loving wife, Danna Glaser; his children, John 'Lane,' Jr. (Anna Magee), Caryl (Ken), Arthur (Lauren), and Becky (Michael); his stepchildren, Stephen (Chandler) and Brandon (Kristyn) David; his siblings, James 'Jimmy' (Donna), Al (Zel), Mickey, and Jerry (Paula); and his eleven grandchildren, Elie, Rhea, Merritt, Jeanne, Stella, Walker, Luke, John Lane III, Charles, James, and Amalie.
A visitation was held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Lettsworth, Louisiana on Saturday, April 12 from 8:30 to 10:30 immediately followed by a religious service and interment in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Lane Ewing, Arthur Ewing, Stephen David, Brandon David, Lance Glaser, and Zack Glaser. Honorary pallbearers will be Karl Glaser and Charles “Brother” Glaser, Jr. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.
