Mildred "Millie" Short Kimball Labatut passed away peacefully in Winter Springs, Florida on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
She was well-loved by so many and leaves a legacy of giving to others, enriching the lives of those around her with her love, diligent care and acts of service.
Mildred was born in Opp, Alabama, moving to Innis, Louisiana during her school years. She married Donald Jerome Kimball and raised her family in New Orleans. She retired as the branch manager of Dryades Savings Bank but never slowed down. She was an avid traveler, whether to faraway places or to visit beloved family and friends. She returned to Pointe Coupee Parish after Donald's passing. She married Joseph Eugene "Gene" Labatut, Jr who also precedes her in death. She lived in Tyler, Texas and Woodstock, Georgia before moving to Florida. She will be remembered as strong, kind and caring with an indomitable spirit and devotion to altruism.
She was a Louisiana PTA Life Member, and member of the Council for a Better Louisiana, Jefferson Business Association, Zonta International, past president of Zonta Club of New Orleans, a Toastmistress and a Lifetime Baptist.
She is survived by son Michael "Mike" Jerome Kimball and daughter Donna Katherine Kimball, daughter-in-law Nancy, Frank Ferrel, grandchildren Blake, Ada (Chad), Leah (Chris) and Carly (Thadd) and great-grandchildren Tatum, Tally and Magnus.
Mildred had nine sisters and six brothers and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly and credit her as important and influential in their lives. She is survived by siblings Margaret, Ada Dianne, Mary Dale and husband James, and Clare LaCita.
A burial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 19 at Oak Grove Church of God in Loranger, Louisiana with nephew Thomas Short officiating.
A most deserving and sincere things go to Arden Courts at Winter Springs who supported Mildred and family beginning in March 2025. Their compassionate, professional care never failed.
