Posted

Joseph Paul Fourroux Jr., a retired Union Pacific Locomotive Engineer and resident of Lottie, LA, passed away surrounded by family in the early hours of September 20, 2024, at the age of 72. Born on August 27, 1952, to Joseph Paul Sr. and Aline Lorio Fourroux in Kenner, LA. Joseph was a proud father to his three boys: Jason, John, and Justin. He was a loving husband to his devoted wife, Mildred Thomas Fourroux, for 16 wonderful years. He was also a father-in-law to Meghan, wife of Jason, and a doting grandfather to Riley and Reese Fourroux. Sonin- law to Mrs. Josephine Thomas, father to step daughter Tanya Doubarere (Nelson), brother-inlaw to Barbara Etienne (Morris), Jerry Thomas, Beverly Martin (Connell), Deborah Hickey (Willie), Sheila Dawson (Carl), step grandfather to Ira Jean Gordon (Ryan) and three step great grandchildren, Alissya, Abigail, and Ryan Jr. Joseph is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Paul Sr. and his dearly beloved mother Aline Lorio Fourroux, and his beloved aunt, Jacqueline Lorio of Kenner.

He is survived by his brother, George Fourroux; sisterin- law, Bridget; niece, Brittney; nephew, Kyle; and his cousin, Jacqueline Schexnaydre Parrish, wife of the late J. Ross Parrish. He was known affectionately as “Blade” by his colleagues due to the craftmanship in the knives he made. Joe was an avid reader, outdoorsman, and storyteller. He cherished spending time in good company, passing along a good joke, chopping firewood and playing chess or dominoes with his boys. Joseph had many talents and accomplishments, and he would tell you that the greatest achievement in his life was when he accepted an invitation to a careful study of the Scriptures from his Bible. His in-depth study of the Scriptures transformed his life and he made the “Truth” his own by getting baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 2002. As the years went by, he matured in his knowledge of Biblical Truth.

He was appointed as a Ministerial servant and served in the New Roads and Maringouin Congregations. He used every opportunity to tell others about his God Jehovah and the many promises recorded in the Holy Bible. For 22 years, Joseph continued to teach and preach to others about the Good News of God’s Kingdom (Matthew 28:19-20), which Jesus taught his followers to pray for in the Lord’s prayer (Matthew 6:910). He remained faithful to his God Jehovah, despite his many illnesses, until his death. Relatives and friends are invited to attend services at Niland’s Funeral Home, 210 Westend Drive, New Roads, LA. Visitation will be from 5-9pm on Friday, September 27th, and from 11am until the service begins at 1pm on Saturday, September 28th. The Fourroux Family would like to express special thanks to the following: Our Lady of the Lake (3rd floor Staff), Opelousas General (ICU Staff), Lafayette Oschner (ICU Staff) DCI Dialysis in Opelousas, LA. We extended our gratitude and appreciation to everyone for their visits, phone calls, cards, heartfelt prayers, meals and words of encouragement.
