Theresa S Jones, a resident of West Baton Rouge and Pointe Coupee parishes, peacefully passed away on August 27, 2024, in Sugar Land, Texas at the age of 82, where members of her family surrounded her. She was the second of nine children born to the union of Wise Simmons and Virginia Ceasar Simmons. She attended Rosenwald High School and married the love of her life, Leroy Jones, in 1965. Theresa was a retired nurses’ aide, where she started that career at Pointe Coupee General Hospital and ended it at Pointe Coupee Nursing Home. Theresa was one of the most selfless, caring, and loving people to know. She would help anyone if she had the means. She spent the last two years of her life living in Richmond, Texas, near her immediate family. She spoiled her great granddaughters, known as ‘The Girls’ so much that she would take their lunches to school every day. She also loved college and professional football.
Theresa is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Simmons Johnson, son-in-love Michael Johnson, grandson Joshua M. Johnson and two great granddaughters “The Girls” Valerie Gabrielle and Gracelynn Oliva Johnson; four sisters Cassie Mae Bellizaire, Geraldine Cage (Larry), Mable Humphrey, and Martha King (John); two sisters-inlaw Betty Simmons; several nieces, nephews, family and friends. Preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Jones; her parents, Wise and Virginia Simmons; and brothers Roosevelt, Leroy, Nathan, and Antohny Simmons. Pallbearers will be Joshua Johnson, Leroy Simmons, Jr., Jason Simmons, Brandon Davis, Donald Toney, Jr., and Tyler King. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Johnson, Byron Simmons, Christopher Humphrey, John King, Robert Johnson, and Xavier Crane. The visitation and funeral will be held at Zion Travelers Baptist Church 11900 Pointe Coupee Road, New Roads on Saturday, September 7, 2024. The visitation is from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and the funeral will follow immediately at 11:00 a.m. The burial will be at the St. Paul UMC Cemetery.
