Posted

Vaughn Monroe Jordan passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025, at the age of 77. Known affectionately as “Bud,” “Hooky Boy,” “Hickory Head,” and “Coon,” Vaughn was cherished by his family and friends. Born in Monroe, Louisiana, to Clarence Monroe Jordan and Mamie Beatrice Calmes on November 28, 1947, Vaughn was a proud Navy veteran who served his country with honor as an aviation electrician during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he earned his degree from Nicholls State University and found his calling as a special education teacher—serving the students of Pointe Coupee Parish for 25 years until his retirement. After retiring, he spent much of his time volunteering across southeast Louisiana. Vaughn was a proud father, a doting grandfather, and a friend to all. His zest for life was contagious. Whether he was belting out old tunes, talking art and history, or walking the golf course every week, Vaughn lived fully and joyfully. He worked hard, played hard, and always had time for a good laugh—or a great story. Vaughn was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Jordan; mother, Mamie Calmes; stepfather, Stanley Calmes; and beloved sister, Dianne Calmes. He is survived by his daughter, Lynsey Jordan Knight; son-in-law, Shannon Knight; grandchildren, Miles Gwin and Estelle Knight; niece, Callie Rodgers Bunter; nephew-in-law, Zach Bunter; great-niece, Kyla Bunter. Vaughn also leaves behind a wide circle of cousins, lifelong friends, and kindred spirits. A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held at The Rock House, 6544 Highway 1, Innis, Louisiana, on Sunday, April 27, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. In honor of Vaughn’s passion for culture, storytelling, and community, donations can be made in his memory to:
