Posted

Alvin Paul Joseph, Sr. peacefully entered into eternal rest on April 8, 2026, at the age of 93. He was born to the late Irvin and Florida Paul Joseph on May 30, 1932, in Dupont, LA. He was the husband, of 76 years, to Lena Collins Joseph. He was a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He married Lena Collins on January 28, 1950. Within that union three (3) children were born; Mary Imogene Joseph Taylor; Alvin Paul Joseph, Jr. (Clara), and John Russell Joseph (Lisa/friend). The beginning of his long and distinguished career was as a sharecropper in Ventress, La. He was employed throughout the years at Smith-Field Sugar Cane Mill, Alma Plantation, and Best Manufacturing Company. “Braw” as he was fondly known, was a true Louisiana sportsman. His hobbies include hunting, fishing, and raising vegetable gardens. A man of devoted Catholic faith, he has served his community as a respected parishioner of St. Augustine Catholic Church in New Roads, La., as an usher, and a member of the Knights of Peter Claver, Council #41. There he has been known for his cheerful smile at Sunday mass, volunteering with the parish bazaars, cooking BBQ for fundraisers and anything else he could do to express his love for the Lord.
When at home you could find him spoiling four (4) wonderful grandchildren: Devona Joseph-Jenkins, Stanley Joseph Taylor, Jr., Christin R. Taylor, and Gabrielle E. Hutchinson in addition to three (3) great-grandchildren: Kamryn C. Jenkins, Skyler I. Taylor, and Sloane N. Taylor. One of his favorite places at home was his recliner. There you could find him watching a mass on EWTN, praying his rosary, enjoying a variety of westerns, or catching a major league baseball or national football league game.
Alvin is preceded in death by his parents, Irvin Joseph and Florida Paul Joseph, and three sisters, Ellen Wheeler, Gracie Belone, and Mary Frank. He is survived by his wife Lena; his children Mary, Alvin Jr. (Clara), and John; 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Mass of Christian Burial: Monday, April 20, 2026, St. Augustine Catholic Church, 809 New Roads St., New Roads, LA 70760.
