Landry, Evelyn "Joyce" Huff

Posted

Evelyn “Joyce” Huff Landry, a resident of Lettsworth, Louisiana was born on June 21, 1931 to Howard and Wildred Norris Huff. She passed away on May 16, 2024. Joyce was a graduate of Simmesport High School. She was a fabulous athlete and proudly held the title of “Miss Simmesport” for two consecutive years. She was the coowner of Landry’s Grocery (“The Store with the Deer”) in Lettsworth, LA for many years. But she was so much more to those who knew her. Perhaps she could be described as a businesswoman, an accountant, a reporter, an investigator, a banker, a counselor, a mother to many, and a friend to all. She never met a stranger and treated everyone like family. Just as Jesus invited everyone to sit at his table, so did Joyce. Her hospitality was legendary, from Friday beer nights to endless Saturday morning chicken spaghetti that would often feed the northern end of Pointe Coupee Parish. Joyce was a loving friend to all who knew her, a caretaker to many, and the embodiment of grace. When she was able to be from “behind the counter” in the store, she enjoyed traveling. A few of her favorite places to visit were Las Vegas, Louisiana’s casinos, and the Cat’s Meow. She loved family, a good beer, and a good time. Wherever she went, she always had her “face on”, her nails done, and was decorated in jewels. Her personality was big, but her heart was bigger! She is survived by her children, Dwona Stuard (Larry), Terrell Landry (Carol Sandidge), Bobby Landry (Lanell Swindler), Ricky Landry (Terri Purpera), and Roland Landry, Jr.; grandchildren, Laurie Stuard Baldwin (Zach), Sandy Stuard Charlet (Greg), Celeste Landry Rogers (Ricky), Cody Landry (Tara), Erika Landry Rogers (Russell) and Maddie Landry; great-grandchildren, Dustin Rogers (Jordan), Trey Rogers, Hayden Charlet, Riley Charlet, Callan Baldwin, Landry Baldwin, Tuf Landry, Gage Rogers, Gavin Rogers and Paislee Rogers; and two great-great grandchildren, Lyla Rogers and Hallie Rogers.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Roland Landry, Sr.; her parents, Howard and Wildred Huff; and her brothers, Max and James Huff of Lake St. John, LA.

Visitation was held on Monday, May 20, 2024 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Innis, LA from 8:30am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11am celebrated by Father Babu Nalkara Vareeth. Burial followed at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church Cemetery.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Juanita Davis, Jackie Ford and Odelia Richardfor the loving care provided to Joyce throughout the years.

If desired, memorial donations can be made to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church or St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church Cemetery Fund.
