Posted

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Les Cantrell, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He passed away peacefully in his home with his family surrounding him. Born on February 3, 1957, in Houston, TX, Les spent his early years in move graduated from Covington High School. He later earned his degree from Ole Miss, a school he held dear throughout his life. Les’ career was a testament to his work ethic, passion, and determination. His journey began as a petroleum landman in Dallas, TX, before he and his wife, Lisa, moved back to New Roads. Together, they opened a convenience store business. Later, he went on to become a successful real estate land broker, dedicating decades to property management. Les devoted much of his life to the betterment of his community. He volunteered as the Chairman of Education for Petroleum Land Management while he lived in Dallas. He served as the Director of the Planning and Zoning Committee of Pointe Coupee Parish for ten years and later as Economic Developer for the Chamber of Commerce for another decade. He was a member of the Rotary Club and the St. Mary’s of False River Knights of Columbus. He felt a deep spiritual connection with the Knights of Columbus, where he earned his Fourth Degree title. He attributes much of his spiritual growth to this beloved group of men. Above all, Les was a devoted family man. He cherished his wife, Lisa, whom he called the love of his life, and was immeasurably proud of his daughters, Cameron and Paige. As a grandfather, Les found immense joy in his role as “Pop,” always present for his grandchildren and nurturing them with love and care. Les was preceded in death by his parents, James Edwin “Pete” Cantrell and Martha Sue Howard Cantrell, his brother David Wayne Cantrell, and his in-laws Morel Gregory “Skippy” Lemoine and Rose Bordelon Lemoine. He is survived by his wife, Lisa Lemoine Cantrell; his children, Cameron Cantrell Murdock (Ty), and Paige Cantrell Guillory (Brad); his 4 grandchildren Graham, Hudson, Amelia, and Georgia; and his brother James Larry Cantrell (AmberLynn). The Knights of Columbus 1998 chapter will escort their brother knight to his final resting place. Services will be held at St. Mary’s of False River Catholic Church on February 26, 2026 starting with a visitation in the church hall at 9 am until 11:50 am, and a funeral service to follow at noon. Pallbearers will be Larry Cantrell, Michael Edwards, Brad Guillory, Ty Murdock, Paul Knowlton, Randy Dykes, Marty Lemoine, Reid Averill, Brack Cantrell, Billy Howell, and Malcolm White. Les will be dearly missed, but his legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched. May his memory be a blessing, and may he rest in eternal peace. He and his family would like to acknowledge the exceptional care given by the Pointe Coupee Home Health and Hospice team and his team of physicians Dr. Paul Rachal and Dr. Mo (Mohammad Efishat). In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Janell LaCombe Cancer Foundation.
