Major, Jr., Norman Joseph

Norman Joseph Major, Jr. a native and resident of New Roads, La, passed away on November 1, 2025 at the age of 93. Norman served in the United States Army from 1953 until he was honorably discharged in 1955. He then went on to own his own electrical business for 5 years. Norman would go on to own and operate Norman Major Grocery with his father in 1960 before he would eventually retire after 73 years in 2004. He was a member of the American Legion for 72 years, Woodmen of The World for 60 years, Manresa Retreats for 40 years and was a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus. In 2006, Norman started a hobby which became a full time business of building Cajun style bird houses and finally retired in 2024. Norman is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sadie Ballard Major; three sons, Mitchell, Brian (Amy) and Philip (Amanda); grandchildren, Rebecca Gonzales (Abraham), Amanda Major, Parker Major and Estelle Major; 11 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandson. Preceded in death by his parents, Norman Major, Sr. and Stella Robillard Major.

The visitation will be held at Niland’s Funeral Home in New Roads, La on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 from 10:00 am until 11:45 am. The Mass of Christian buri-al will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 12:00 noon. The entombment will follow in False River Memorial Park Mausoleum.
