Mom was taken to heaven with Angel’s Wings on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at 12:30 a.m. leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, and devotion. She died at the age of 88 at her home in Jarreau suffering from a long battle with dementia. She was born on May 7, 1936, the youngest child of Henry and Albericia Pascalin. A celebration of life was held at Immaculate Conception Church Hall in Lakeland on Wednesday, Oct 2, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial in the Church at 11:00 a.m., conducted by Father Rubin Reynolds. Interment followed at False River Memorial Park in New Roads. Mable married the love of her life, Harry Melancon, a career Army Man, on July 24, 1955. Together, they embarked on a 21-year journey that took them around the world, with Mable often reminiscing about their 'three-year honeymoon' in Paris. Throughout Harry’s numerous military deployments, she gracefully managed their household and raised their three daughters, embodying strength and resilience. After Harry’s retirement from the military, she enjoyed a fulfilling 24-year career as a Walmart Associate, working mostly in the shoe department. She often spoke fondly of her colleagues, whom she considered her second family. A devout parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church and a proud member of the Ladies Altar Society, Mable’s faith was central to her life. She always carried a rosary in her pocket, praying multiple times throughout the day. Her incredible sense of faith was an inspiration to everyone who knew her, truly one of GOD’S angels on earth. One could say her hobbies were shopping for shoes and purses and enjoying a good fried fish dinner at local restaurants. She enjoyed speaking and teaching everyone her knowledge of the French language which she learned from her Mother growing up. She cherished family gatherings and was affectionately called “MawMaw” not only by her grandchildren but also by their friends. Mom often reminded her children and grandchildren that “GOD, faith, and family are the most important things in life.”
Mable is survived by a large family who will hold her memory close to their hearts forever. She leaves behind her loving husband of 69 years, Harry Melancon Jr., who was strongly devoted to her care and staying by her side throughout her illness; three loving daughters, Diana (Shane) Matherne, Debbie (Greg) Guichet, and Donna (Brian) Cline; seven grandchildren, Shane Major, Shara Horne, Jeremy (Blake) Guichet, Jacob (Kaitlyn) Guichet, Jonas Guichet, Logan Worley and Layton (Dakota) Cline; ten great grandchildren, Reece Major, Pacey Guichet, Elliot Guichet, Julien Guichet, Bennett Guichet, Isla Guichet, Asher Guichet, Lucas Worley, Jaxson Worley, Waylen Cline and one arriving in October, Evy Cline; one sister-in-law, Annie Mae Pascalin; her Godchild, AJ Pourciau, who helped care for her.
