Merlin Anthony Plauche, resident of New Roads, LA passed away at his home surrounded by family on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at the age of 92. He was a US Army and Louisiana National Guard Veteran. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and “Jack of all trades”. He retired from the Pointe Coupee Parish School Board after many years of service.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years Mary Elina Andre Plauche, nieces and nephews that he loved as his own. Tony & Marsha Plauche, Ruedi & Ann Plauche Bachmann, Thomas “Andy” & Donna Plauche, Johnny & Cathy Plauche, Kevin & Beth Plauche Ledoux. Sisters Marie Plauche Bordelon, Mollie Ann Plauche Lemoine, Cynthia Plauche Flanders and brother Jude Plauche. Great Nephews Michael Plauche & Thomas “Bubs” Bachmann, Great Nieces Andrea Plauche Dabadie, Erica Plauche Gueho, Becky & Candace Plauche and Edye Bachmann. Great Great Nephews Taylor Plauche, Gavin Huffman, Clayton & Luke Mougeot, Beaux Fruge & Mason Gueho. Great great nieces Lexi LeBeau, Ellie Francis Dabadie, Bailey Plauche, Maggie Gueho and his beloved Poodle Sebastian.

Preceded in death by his parents Andrew & Anne Roy Plauche, brother and sister-in-law Warren “Tommy” & Theresa Andre Plauche, brothers in law Buddy Lemoine, Tootsie Bordelon, sister-in-law Margaret Plauche, Mother and Father-in-law Morris and Irene David Andre.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church, New Roads LA on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at 12 noon. Visitation is at St Mary Church Hall beginning 8:00 to 9:00 for family and 9:00 to 11:45 AM for the public. He will be laid to rest in St Mary’s Cemetery, New Roads, LA. The bereavement reception to follow at the home of Tony & Marsha Plauche.

The family would like to express special thanks to Pointe Coupee Hospice and his sitters Glenda Long and Mary Ann Battley. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
