The City of New Roads lost some of its light on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, when God called his beloved Dorothy White Porche to her eternal rest. She crossed over peacefully at her home surrounded by family with anticipation of her loving husband and parents welcoming her arrival. Dorothy, a dedicated Gemini, was born on June 12, 1958, at Sisters of Saint Joseph Hospital in New Roads, La. She was a committed member of Saint Augustine Catholic Church, serving as an usher. Dorothy attended Rosenwald Elementary, Junior, and High Schools. She graduated from RHS Class of 1976, prior to attending Southern University in Baton Rouge, La. She had compassion for all her classmates, both living and those gone before her. Dorothy was a pillar of the New Roads community and workforce. She was well known by many due to her gift of communicating easily with people of all walks of life. Her greatest commitments were accepting Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and when she joined Tommy Porche in the sacrament of Holy Matrimony. They were married June 2000 and remained together until his untimely death in December 2016. She is survived by her siblings: Joann B. Jackson, Brenda F. Terrance, Rita Martin (Emmitt), Irma J. Smith, Penny J. LaCour (Daryl), Roland Stafford, Jr., Mildred D. Stafford, Lesley M. Stafford, Mary Louise Stafford, Carolyn S. Ramagos (Joseph); Goddaughter Leah White; Devoted Cousin Mazie (Brue) Bougere, Godsons: Julius L. Stafford, Treyvon Stafford, a host of Nephews, Nieces, Aunts, Uncle, Cousins, Friends, Loyal Pets: “Lil Dog” and Lucky (cat). Dorothy was a mother hen to everyone’s children despite not having any of her own. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Porche; her parents, Roland Stafford Sr. and Rosemary Stafford; Paternal Grandparents, Junius Stafford and Angelina Fabre Stafford; Maternal Grandparents, Alma Brue Batiste, Demas Batiste, Sr., Lester “Golden” White; Beloved Aunts, Dorothy White Cushingberry, Florence T. Batiste, Augustine B. Batiste, Joyce Batiste, Maggie “Madear” Brue, Eola S. Hunter, Willie Mae Jeanpierre, Joetta S. Morris; Uncles, Oliver Batiste, Demas Batiste, Jr., Lincoln Hunter, Paul Jeanpierre, Oliver Morris Sr., Brother: Robert “Bobcat” Theodore, Nephew: Michael Stafford and a host of extended family members and friends. Her family invites you to honor Dorothy White Porche by attending a Memorial Gathering and keeping her in your prayers.
