Joseph Ivy Solomon was born on March 5, 1937 in New Roads, Louisiana to the late Ivy and Clara Laura Solomon. He entered eternal comfort on April 28, 2023. Ivy was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, and he received all of the sacraments of the faith. Ivy graduated from New Roads High School in 1957, and then entered the United States Army. He learned to lay bricks under the mentorship of the late Roger Martin, who encouraged him to pursue his love of bricklaying and begin his own business. Ivy was a member of the Knights of Peter Claver Court #41 and last November was awarded his gold certificate for having maintained his membership for over fifty years. Joseph Ivy is survived by three children: Sheila Solomon, Ketra (Ray) Adolph, and Ivy Christopher Solomon; and one grandson, Joshua White. He is also survived by three sisters, Lorenza Harris, Lillian Solomon, Laura Leufroy and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivy and Clara Laura Solomon, his son Joseph Myron Solomon, his former wife, Joyce Solomon, and his sister Clara Mitchell. Visitation was held on Friday, May 5, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 809 New Roads Street in New Roads, LA. The Mass of Christian Burial began at 10:00 a.m. with Father Patrick Healy, S.S.J. officiating. Interment followed in the St. Augustine Catholic Church Cemetery. Professional services were entrusted to Verrette's Pointe Coupee Funeral home. Special thanks are extended to his doctors, Lance Lamotte, Spyrie Mays, Stan Mays, and Siva Yadlapati.
