Stephen Daniel LaCour

Posted

Stephen Daniel LaCour was born in Mexico, Missouri on February 22, 1976; the fourth son of Robert "Tate" LaCour and Kay Sexton LaCour.  Steve lived in Northern California for most of his life.  He considered himself to be and presented himself as a Louisiana-Cajun; a heritage he proudly professed and fully embraced.

Steve played baseball for and graduated from De La Salle High School in Concord, California.  He graduated from the University of California Berkeley with a Degree in Anthropology in 1997 and immediately went to work as a Wealth Manager at Morgan Stanley in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was named as a Vice President in 2021 and ultimately worked at Morgan Stanley for a distinctive, and rare twenty-seven years.

Being an avid world-traveler, Steve would spend months planning every aspect of his multi-week adventures. His goals were to see most (if not all) of the major landmarks of a country, get to know the people, enjoy their foods, and immerse himself in their culture.  For most of his recorded trips Steve used Facebook and Instagram (@slacour4) to share thousands of photos coupled with remarkably-detailed narratives.

Steve brought family and friends with him to distant places like: Africa, Egypt, Antarctica and Mongolia. He walked the 500-mile Camino de Santiago with his mom in 2021! His most-cherished travel companion is his fiancée, Ann Sawner; he proposed to Ann in October 2025 at Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. Steve visited every continent except Australia, and he planned to go there in the fall of 2026.

Steve played the guitar, and his love of music and his expansive knowledge of multiple genres of it are unmatched.  His passion for swing-dancing and his pursuit of it (and his multiple-continent friends from it) are equally impressive.

For nearly 20 years Steve volunteered at an art studio in Oakland, California called Creative Growth. The studio caters to talented, adult artists with a variety of disabilities. Their artwork serves as a vehicle for self-expression and as a means of income for support. Steve loved the artists there, and they absolutely adored him.

Steve began his heavenly-walkabout on December 16, 2025. He is survived by his mother, Kay Frances  Sexton LaCour, his brothers Bryan (Tiffany), John (Haruko) and Jeffrey LaCour, his rock and fiancée Ann Sawner, and his seven, amazing nieces and nephews: Rhett and Clayton (Bryan), Andrew and Natalie (John), and Nicole, Jack and Lauren (Jeffrey).

A memorial and blessing were held April 17, 2026 at the Immaculate Conception Church-Chenal Cemetery.  Thank you Deacon Pat Witty for helping us weave that memorable, spiritual-tapestry. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Stephen’s name be made to Creative Growth art studio.  Their website address is: https://www.creativegrowth.org/  and their physical address is: 355 24TH Street, Oakland, CA 94612

Forever in our hearts.

Come back soon, Uncle Stevo.
