Steve Fourrier, a native of Baton Rouge and resident of New Roads, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2025, surrounded by his four children and grandchildren.
A devoted Catholic, Steve lived a full and faith-filled life alongside his beloved wife of 52 years, Susan Cazedessus Fourrier. Together they raised four children and were blessed with 16 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way. He is survived by his children, Peter and Susan Fourrier and their children Whitney, Cody, Blake, Amanda, and Kaitlin; Gregory Fourrier and his children Madeline, Gabrielle, Amelia, MaKali, and Charlie; Jonathan and Rebecca Fourrier and their children Ethan, Nolan, Benjamin, and Sarah Kathryn; and Stephanie Fourrier Fontaine and her children Andrew and Katherine. He is also survived by his brothers, Andre Fourrier and Michel and his wife Karen Fourrier. He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Cazedessus Fourrier; his parents, Lawrence (Larry) and Carmen Hebert Fourrier; and his in-laws, Eugene and Virginia Culpepper Cazedessus. Steve graduated from Catholic High School, Class of 1961, and attended LSU. He worked for the Louisiana Secretary of State before being drafted into the U.S. Army, where he trained at Fort Polk and was ultimately stationed at the Pentagon. In August of 1968, he married Susan, beginning a partnership that would be the center of his life. Following his service, Steve began a successful career alongside his father at Fourrier Insurance Agency, where he worked until his retirement in 1989. Beyond his professional career, Steve dedicated his time, talent, and faith to St. Aloysius Catholic Church and School, Catholic High School of Baton Rouge, and St. Joseph’s Academy. He cherished the friendships and community he built through these institutions. In 1990, Steve was honored with the prestigious Golden Bear Hall of Fame Award from Catholic High School, recognizing his leadership, character, and dedication to the school. Steve’s legacy is one of faith, family, service, and joy. One of Steve’s greatest joys was time spent with family in Grand Isle at the “Island Queen.” The beach was a second home, where countless memories were made fishing, crabbing, shrimping, duck hunting, and spending time with friends who grew into family. He was also a member of the Tropical Gardens Hunting Club in Pecan Island, where he enjoyed duck hunting and the camaraderie of friends. Known for his quick wit, good humor, and never meeting a stranger, Steve was loved by all who knew him. The family wishes to thank the dedicated staff at Baton Rouge General ICU and the 3rd floor nurses, as well as Dr. Panzarello, Dr. Cullota, and Dr. Paul Rachal and his staff for their exceptional care and support over the years. They would also like to thank the Lacour House staff, residents, and friends— especially Ms. Margaret Bishop—for their care, kindness, and companionship with him over the last two years. The visitation will be held at Nilands Funeral Home in New Roads on Thursday, September 4, 2025 from 9:00 am until 11:30 am. The Mass of Christian burial will follow at 12 noon at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Roads, with interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Ethan Fourrier, Cody Fourrier, Blake Fourrier, Nolan Fourrier, Andrew Fontaine, and Charlie Fourrier. Honorary pallbearers will be Michel Fourrier, Andre Fourrier, Bo Bienvenu, Mike Lamana, Mike Nola, L.J. Dantin, Stan Heine, Charlie Tramonte, and Ensley Duke. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pointe Coupee Home Health and Hospice in gratitude for their compassionate care.
