Bradford Francis Currier

Posted

Bradford Francis Currier passed away on April 12, 2026, at his home in New Roads, Louisiana, just a few days following his 70th birthday, surrounded by his immediate family. Brad was born on April 8, 1956, to Mortimer and Katherine Diet Currier. Brad’s early years were spent with his parents and four siblings in Plaquemine, Louisiana. After graduating from St. Paul’s School in 1974, Brad earned a degree in general business administration from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1981. Brad’s playful nature served him well when he became a young father after the birth of his son, Clayton, in 1980. Then, in his late thirties, Brad’s childhood friend, Price Gay, set him up on a blind date with a tiny firecracker single mom of three girls who stole his heart. Brad uprooted his bachelor lifestyle and headed to New Roads. Brad and Sandy were married on a random July weekend in 1999 overlooking beautiful False River. Brad was most at home on the water, fishing with his brothers, or on the golf course with his friends. We expect that he is happy to have made it to heaven on Masters Sunday. Brad will be remembered for his humor, never-met-a-stranger spirit, and gregarious personality. It is safe to say that Brad loved a “commotion.” He felt right at home in the sociable, open-armed community of New Roads. Brad also loved a perfectly cooked medium-rare steak on a Weber charcoal grill, history books and movies (particularly WWII), going out on his shrimping boat as a teenager, singing Amy Winehouse with Clayton, and stealing candy from his grandchildren. Proudly, Brad reached a two-year sobriety milestone shortly before his death. His family and friends cherish that special time with him. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Sandy; his son, Clayton; stepdaughters Doughty Varnedoe and husband Scott; Courtney Wilson and partner PJ; Ashley Mullens and husband David; grandchildren, Parker and Grayson Varnedoe and Wyatt and Graham Mullens; mother, Katherine Diet Currier; brothers Mark Currier and wife Jenise; Doug Currier and wife Ann; Lionel Currier and wife Dana; sister Elizabeth Currier Winter; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father, Dr. Mortimer Currier. Services will be held at St. Mary of False River Catholic Church on Thursday, April 16, starting with a visitation in the church hall at 12 pm followed by a funeral service at 2 pm.   A special thank you to Pointe Coupee Homebound Health and Hospice and the numerous friends, doctors, nurses, and sitters who helped make his last days comfortable.
