Yvette Marie Pourciau left this world to be with her heavenly Father on June 23, 2026. Born on July 18, 1964, Yvette was a native of Livonia and a resident of Lafayette, Louisiana, where she lived with purpose, dignity, and unwavering devotion to God and others. A proud graduate of The Baton Rouge School for the Blind, Yvette continued her academic journey with remarkable determination. She earned degrees from Louisiana State University, the University of South Louisiana (now UL), and ultimately the University of Arkansas, where she completed her Master’s Degree in Teaching the Visually Impaired. Her education became her ministry.
For 25 years, Yvette served as a Braille instructor at the Affiliated School for the Blind, where she empowered students with the tools, confidence, and encouragement to navigate the world independently. Her compassion, patience, and dedication left a lasting mark on every life she touched. Yvette was also deeply committed to advocacy and community service. She was actively involved in numerous organizations and proudly served as President of the Louisiana Association for the Visually Impaired, championing accessibility, education, and opportunities for individuals with visual impairments across the state. Her most treasured pastime was crocheting. One of her most beautiful memories will be of the items she has made for family and friends. She was always “twiddling” as she would put it. She was also an avid baker of cookies and was known for her famous pumpkin bread.
She is survived by her loving mother, Yvonne Mars Pourciau; her brothers Adam Pourciau (Sheila), Aaron Pourciau Sr. (Gina), Aubrey Pourciau (Shelly); and her sister Nanette Pourciau Mayeaux (Jay) and her faithful guide dog Vanessa. She is also cherished by her nieces, nephews, extended family, former students, and countless friends who will forever carry her light. She is preceded in death by her father, Adam Pourciau, Jr. Her family and friends will celebrate her beautiful life, steadfast faith, and the gentle spirit of a woman who touched countless hearts. A visitation will be held at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Livonia on Friday, June 26, 2026 from 9:00 am, until Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Adam Pourciau, Aaron Pourciau Sr., Aubrey Pourciau, Jay Mayeaux, Brandon Chenevert, and Johnathan LaGrone. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Aaron Pourciau, Jr., Mathew Pourciau, and Johnathan Pourciau.
Yvette lived a life rooted in faith, service, and love. Though she has departed this earthly home, her legacy continues in the lives she uplifted, the students she guided, and the family who loved her deeply. May she rest in the eternal peace of Christ, where perfect light now surrounds her.
