Five gang members convicted in Pointe Coupee Parish

In a rare criminal court case in state cases, five alleged gang members allegedly involved in murder were tried together and found guilty in 18th Judicial District Court in Pointe Coupee Parish Feb. 8.
The five were members of the Young and Wreckless gang who were involved in the Jan. 21, 2021
murder of Eugene Jarreau, III of New Roads.

District Attorney Tony Clayton made the decision to try the gang members together.

Livonia High dismissed after bomb threat

A bomb threat led to a lockdown and early dismissal Thursday afternoon at Livonia High School.

The school received a call from a person who said they were on their way to “blow up the school,” which led officials to put the school on lockdown, principal Karla Jack told The Banner.

The call was received around 1 p.m.

The fight and bomb threat transpired a short time apart, but no evidence has surfaced that connected the two incidents, she said.

When Rachael Bergeron was young, her bedtime routine was a little different.

“I would come up with ideas for stories and I would tell my mom and dad. I would tell the bedtime stories,” she said.

Coming up with her own stories and “writing ever since I was little,” has led the high school junior to publish her first novel, “Where the Tide Leads Us.”
