Catholic-Pointe Coupee heads to Sulphur for state title softball tournament

For the 11th time in 12 years, Catholic High of Pointe Coupee has reached the semifinals of the state softball tournament.

No. 1 Catholic-PC (23-10) plays No. 5 Opelousas Catholic (24-9) at noon Friday in one Division IV Select semifinal on Field 19 at the Frasch Softball Complex in Sulphur.

Only one Pointe Coupee Parish prep baseball team will be going to the
state playoffs.
Catholic High of Pointe Coupee (25-9) is the No. 5 seed in the Division IV
Select bracket.
The Hornets, co-champions of District 6-1A, will host No. 12 Central
Catholic in the regional round, beginning Tuesday, April 25. Central
Catholic also drew a first-round bye.
The Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) released the eight
baseball playoff brackets at noon Tuesday.

Body found on front lawn in Morganza

Investigation is underway by the Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff’s Office after a man was found dead Tuesday morning on the front lawn of a Morganza home.

Jason Patrick Dickinson, 47, was found at approximately 7:50 a.m. at the residence on 271 La. 1 North in Morganza, Sheriff Rene Thibodeaux said.

No foul play is suspected, but a toxicology test will be conducted in hopes of determining the cause of death, the sheriff said.

New Roads man of possession of methamphetamine, narcotics and firearm

A Pointe Coupee Parish jury deliberated only 17 minutes before returning guilty verdicts against Ray Allen Parker on three charges at the end of a 2-day trial in 18th Judicial District Court. Parker was convicted of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm with narcotics, and possession of methamphetamine.

Parker, age 30, of 514 Pennsylvania St., New Roads, was arrested on Sept. 15, 2022, after a high-speed chase.
