Two Pointe Coupee Parish girls prep basketball teams will be on the road for the first round of the state playoffs.

In the Division IV Select bracket, No. 21 Catholic-PC (19-14) will go on the road to New Orleans to face No. 12 Louise McGehee (13-7).

Insurance bill wins House OK

Legislation to stabilize Louisiana’s struggling property insurance market got a boost when lawmakers approved the measure on a 90-6 vote Wednesday at the State Capitol. The bill was set to go to the Senate for final approval at The Banner’s deadline.

Man convicted in relatives’ deaths

A Pointe Coupee Parish jury found Morris J. Hollins guilty of killing two men and wounding another in a shooting on Sept. 17, 2021 after a threeday jury trial, according to District Attorney Tony Clayton.

PCE sets move to new electric provider

A move to a new wholesale electrical provider in two years will usher a new phase of modernization for Pointe Coupee Electric. PCE will enter into a new wholesale power supply agreement with NextEra Energy, a Fortune 500 company starting in April 2025, said Jimmy Ewing, Pointe Coupee Electric president.
