Offices for the Pointe Coupee Parish sheriff, assessor and clerk of court began work this week on a relocation process required by the renovation and upgrade work.

Work is about to go into full swing on longneeded repairs and upgrades to the 102-yearold courthouse, a centerpiece of the parish that has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1981.

Child-care funding cuts a worry here

A state House proposal that would shift $24.3 million from early childhood education programs has drawn disappointment from the head of the Pointe Coupee Early Childhood Coalition (PCECC). The plan brought forth by the House last week shifts funds to K-12 education but takes away money for programs that offer education and quality child-care for children 3 and under.

New Roads going into the animal biz

Animal control in the city of New Roads once again will become a municipal service after a decision Mayor Theron Smith announced at the regular meeting Tuesday. The move withdraws the city from an agreement it brokered with Pointe Coupee Animal Services two years ago.
