Volta, Ann Odette DeRogers

Ann Odette DeRogers Volta, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt passed away peacefully at home in New Roads, Louisiana on February 20, 2024. She was affectionally called “N_a_n_n_i_e_” _by her family and friends. Ann was the ninth child born to Phillip and Mary Edith Jacque DeRogers. Ann was united in Holy Matrimony on April 16, 1956 to Russell Volta, and to this union three children were born. She was a faithful member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. She was a 50-plus-year member of Father Harnett Council Ladies Auxiliary Court #41. She was also a former member of the Altar Society and Jolly Senior Citizens. Ann worked tirelessly in the healthcare profession for over 30 years. She was trained in her ministry by the Sisters of St. Joseph at St. Joseph Hospital in New Roads, Louisiana. In 1969, she moved on to Pointe Coupee General Hospital. There she worked as a nurse’s assistant, respiratory therapist, and EKG technician. She excelled in every capacity! After leaving Pointe Coupee General, she continued her love for taking care of others by doing private duty sitting. Ann was always one call away for all of the elderly and neighbors in Curet Subdivision. Ann loved her children and family. She was often teased about having a favorite. We knew she loved us equally! She had a special relationship with all of her nieces and nephews. (Cakes for some, pecan candies, and potato salad for others.) She was the leader of the rosary when we had family telephone conference calls. She enjoyed baking and was known for her delicious caramel and German chocolate cakes. Though her time on earth is done, her legacy lives on through the seeds she sowed. She is survived by her three daughters: Sandra Sneed, New Roads, Louisiana; Edith (Welton) Smothers, New Roads, Louisiana; and Monica Bergeron, Houston, Texas. Two sisters: Mary Ellen Norwood, Ventress, Louisiana; and Doris Dundy, New Roads, Louisiana. Four grandchildren: Andrea Sneed, New Roads, Louisiana; Tiffany (Micheal) Brue, Zachary, Louisiana; Bennette Bergeron, Jr., Houston, Texas; Alaceia Smothers, New Roads, Louisiana. Five greatgrandchildren: David-Micheal, Mekhi and Makayla Brue, and Kimberly and Brennen Bergeron, two godchildren; Carolyn George and Racheal Daisy. A host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Mary Edith Jacque DeRogers; her husband, Russell Volta; eight sisters and two brothers: Edna Smith, Hazel DeRogers, Eloise Brent, Agnes Gosserand, Mary Rose Celestine, Sadie Gauthier, Catherine Spencer, Marjorie Martin, Philip and Ferman DeRogers; five sisters-in-law and twelve brothers-in-law; a son-in-law David Sneed; and two godchildren, Robert Brent III and Helen Celestine.

Kendrick Jr., Paul Raymond

Paul Raymond Kendrick, Jr., a native of New Roads, passed away peacefully at St. Clare Manor in Baton Rouge on February 15, 2024. He was 65 years old, born on August 10, 1958 to Paul Raymond and Patsy Doughty Kendrick. He is survived by 1 sister, Susan Bickham married to Richard M. Bickham; 3 brothers, Douglas Kendrick; Jeffrey Kendrick; and James Kendrick, married to Christy Cormier Kendrick. Raymond had one daughter, Jessica Connor married to Sean Connor. He was forever proud of Jessica, Sean, and his three grandsons Cole, Caden, and Cash Connor. Raymond lived an active young life as an outstanding athlete, competing in baseball and basketball. Growing up on False River led to a love of fishing, hunting, and water skiing. After graduating high school, he received a scholarship to play basketball at Baptist Christian College in Shreveport, Louisiana. Raymond had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. He was known to be strong willed at times, which served him well after his tragic diving accident in 1985. During the years that followed, he kept an overcoming mindset and never lost his faith in God. He became a prayer warrior for his family and friends, often praying well into the night hours. 2 Corinthians 4: 16-17 beautifully describes how Raymond came to view his life: “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.” Raymond will be missed dearly, but we rejoice that he is running on the streets of Heaven now in his new body. Visitation will be at Niland’s Funeral Home in New Roads on Tuesday, February 27, from 10:00 - 11:00. The Celebration of Life service will immediately follow officiated by Pastor Mark Harrell of Victory Christian Fellowship in Somerset, Kentucky. Pallbearers will be Sean Connor, Kyle Bello, Richard Bickham, Douglas Kendrick, Jeffrey Kendrick, and James Kendrick. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN. 38105.

Spencer Sr., William 'Bill' Edward

William “Bill” Edward Spencer Sr., a resident of New Roads, La passed away on February 18, 2024 at the age of 76. Bill worked as a welding inspector for well over 40 years before he went on to retire. He was an avid musician and spent much of his time as a recording artist, giving music lessons to others and also owned his own music store, Top Notch Music Main St. He loved spending time with his family and had a special place in his heart for his in-laws, his wife’s family, the David Family. Many things made Bill happy, his family, children and music being his favorite, but a special treat that could always brighten his day was a good diet coke, thick Hershey bar and a pack of BBQ Fritos. Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years, Susie David Spencer; sons, William Edward Spencer Jr., Ron David Spencer (Michelle), and Markkevin Spencer (Julie); grandchildren, Sabrina, Hayden, Devin, Grant, and Alex Spencer, and Calli and Bryce Phillips; siblings, Ellen Theresa Jarreau (Jessie) and Larry Nelson Hafford(Nancy); and many loved ones. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ellen and William Edward Spencer Sr,; sister, Evelyn Elaine Spencer; and Uncle Bud Keller. Pallbearers were Larry Hafford, William Jr., Ron, Markkevin, Hayden and Grant Spencer. Honorary pallbearers were Devin and Alex Spencer. The visitation was held at Niland’s Funeral Home in New Roads, La on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The religious service was held in the funeral home parlor at 11:00 a.m. The burial followed in False River Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Dabadie, Lawrence Henry

Lawrence Henry Dabadie a native of Ventress, La., and resident of Thibodaux, La., passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at the age of 69. Henry was a loving father, grandfather, and brother. He was a kind soul, an avid history buff, and a patriot who loved his country dearly. Henry was a devoted father, and his favorite pastime was going anywhere his boys would take him: hunting camps, fishing trips, air shows, the beach, and Idaho. He retired from Enterprise Corp., where he worked as a maintenance technician. To cherish his memory, Henry leaves behind his loving sons- Drew Dabadie (Anne) and Matthew Adam Dabadie (Lauren); grandsons - Landynn, Cole, and Grayson; siblings-Yvonne Hoffman, Charles (Butch), David and Francis Dabadie; numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Marilyn, and former wife, Jo Louise. He is preceded in death by his parents, C. Allen Dabadie and Laura Belle Jarreau Dabadie; father and mother-in-law, Bennie and Jessie Pickett; sisterin- law, Vickie Dabadie. A visitation will be held at Niland’s Funeral Home in New Roads on Thursday, February 15, 2024, from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at noon, conducted by Rev. Michael Maroney and Deacon Jeremy Doucet. The interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Drew, Matthew, and Ben Dabadie, Doug and Jake Hoffman, and Mike Fandel.

Patterson, Barry Leon Joseph

Barry Leon Joseph Patterson, a resident of Morganza, La passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at the age of 74. Barry worked for the Pointe Coupee Sheriff’s Department for over 25 years, where he served in the capacity of Warden, before he retired. After retiring from the Sheriff’s Department, Barry would spend much of his time hunting with his grandsons and son-in-law. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved ones. If Barry wasn’t found in the woods hunting, you would most likely catch him taking care of his yard. Barry is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lisa Landry Patterson; daughters, Meghan Patterson and Michelle P. Leonard (David); grandchildren, David Leonard III (Tomi), Brody Leonard, and Skyla Leonard; great granddaughter, Reese Leonard; and his siblings, Glynn Patterson, Lois Wood, Daisy Norman, and Nell Schilling. He is preceded in death by his parents, Beatrice and Leon Joseph Patterson; father-in-law, Ervin “Dealer” Landry; and niece, Christy Patterson Duncan. Pallbearers will be Lorne Webre, David Leonard III, Brody Leonard, John Landry, Glynn Patterson, Jason White and Joey Baugh. Visiting will be held at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Morganza, La on Friday, February 9, 2024 from 8:30 am until the Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 am. The entombment will follow in the church mausoleum. In lieu of flowers donations can be made St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Pointe Coupee Home Health and Hospice. Patin, William Kearn

William Kearn Patin, a native of Rougon, La and a resident of Port Allen, La, passed away at his home on January 25, 2024 at the age of 84. William worked as a general contractor doing carpentry work for many years. He enjoyed listening to and watching old western music and movies. William also enjoyed cooking and spending time with his family, where his sense of humor and jokes were always ready to put a smile on his loved ones faces. William is survived by his wife, Shyrie Hendricks Patin; children, Paul Patin and Mary “Denise” Patin; grandchildren, Sean Patin, Joshua Patin, Brandon Allred, and Renise Patin; and his siblings, Joseph Patin, Gary Patin, and Victoria Bankston. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward Alcide Patin Sr. and Frances Ricard Patin; and his brothers, Edward Alcide Patin Jr. and Victor “Poppee” Patin. Pallbearers will be Paul Patin, Brandon Allred, Keith Patin, Gary Patin, Kim Patin, Kevin Juge and Jeffrey Juge. The visitation will be held at Our Lady of Sorrow Traditional Catholic Church in Baton Rouge, La on Friday, February 2, 2024 from 9:00 am until 9:40 am. The rosary will be held at 9:40 am followed by the Traditional Roman Catholic Mass at 10:00 am conducted by Father DeMeyer. Following the funeral mass, the burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Cemetery in Lakeland, La. The repass will immediately follow in the church hall.

Werchan, Patricia

Patricia Werchan passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at 7:45 p.m. at the age of 73. She was a native of Pointe Coupee Parish. She was employed by the Catholic Diocese for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking and travelling, especially to the beach. Her days were occupied by loving her most precious dog Be-Be. She was preceded in death by her parents Lelio and Veletta Mix and by her first love and husband Tony H. Brouillette. She is survived by her husband James Werchan. Her devoted children Toni LeBlanc and her husband Charles LeBlanc Jr, Jackie Babin and Joey Bernard. Five Grandchildren, Grant LeBlanc and wife Brittany, Kendall LeBlanc and fiancé Berna, Olivia LeBlanc, Ty Babin and Ava Babin; and a great granddaughter Charlie Jo LeBlanc; 3 brothers L.J Mix and Deb, Ronnie Mix and Delores, Michael Mix and Veronica; 2 sisters Diane Ramagos and Mark, Cindy Landry and Jay. Funeral services were held at Nilands Funeral Home in New Roads, La on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. Followed by church services at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Pallbearers were Grant LeBlanc, Kendall LeBlanc, Olivia LeBlanc, Ty Babin, Jeremy Ramagos, Tanner Amond and Hunter Amond.

Samson, Sr., Charles Clifford

Charles Clifford Samson, Sr., a native and resident of Baton Rouge, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Friday, January 20, 2024, at the age of 87. After graduating from Catholic High, he served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He eventually retired from ExxonMobil Refinery after 26 years of service. Charles loved to dance, fish, hunt, play and watch golf, cook and watch LSU football. Above all, he cherished the time he spent with his family and friends. Charles is survived by his children, Laura Samson Martin (Chris), Daphne Samson LeSage (Ronnie), Cliff Samson (Michelle), Cyd Samson Hays (Jimmy), and Becky Samson Breaux (Chris); grandchildren, Allyson, Sophie, Michael, Ron, John, Corey, Randy, Kenneth, Brittanie, Logan, Charles III, Benton, Rachel, Darryl Jr., Ben, Will, Jack, CJ, Hunter, Payton, Lauren, Emily, Maddie, Renee; 24 great-grandchildren; and a host of other loving family members. He is preceded in death by his son, Barry Lynn Samson; wife, Carol Ann Gaudin Samson; grand daughter, Hallie Samson; greatgranddaughter, Shelby Wenning; parents, Clifford and Dorothy Samson; and sister, Patsy Tucker. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Friday, January 26, 2024, from 12 p.m. until the time of funeral services at 2:00 p.m. Burial will immediately follow at Greenaoks Memorial Park.
