Minogue Sr., Richard Bruce

Richard Bruce Minogue Sr. passed away peacefully in his home on January 13, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at age 88. Dick was born in Chicago on February 24, 1935 and though he was a Northerner by birth, he remained a Southerner by choice. Upon moving to New Roads in 1979, he fell in love with the family, the community and the charm of South Louisiana. The cherry on top of the Pecan tree was the quaint 9-hole golf course which he enjoyed playing with his golf buddies. Richard was an active and exceptional athlete, graduating from Calumet High School in Chicago with scholarships in baseball, wrestling, and football. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma University, a Master’s degree from AFIT in Dayton, Ohio and later a law degree from LSU. During his decorated military career in the U.S. Air Force, Dick worked as a Flight Navigator, Air Rescue Officer, Missile Crew Commander, Maintenance Officer, Procurement Officer and Detachment Commander. Dick served proudly with distinction in Vietnam. He traveled globally and while living abroad in Okinawa, he met his future bride Lynn Langlois of New Roads who was there working with the D.O.D. as an educator. The two were married in June of 1968 and for 55 years he continued to call her “my bride”. After 22 years of service, Dick retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Lt. Colonel and he and Lynnie settled in New Roads where they raised their two boys. Upon graduation from LSU Law School in 1982, he began his second career, going on to practice with Kearney, Smith, and Chustz where he later became a partner. Richard is preceded in death by his infant son, Michael, father Harry, mother Amy, and brothers Gene and Michael. He is survived by his bride of 55 years, Lynnie, daughters Michelle Momany (Corey), and Mary Kendell (Mark), sons Richard Bruce Jr. and William (Luka) and his beloved grandchildren Dale, Sophia, Regan, Hagen, Vivien, and Cohen. A Christian Mass will be held at 12 o'clock in St. Mary’s Church on Thursday, January 18th, 2024. The interment to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tunnel to Towers. Lynnie would like to thank Dr. Doucet, Dr. Deumite, Homebound Health and Hospice, Stephanie, Jennifer, Shemelda, Michelle and Cherie and a special thank you to all the family and friends for the care, kindness and support given to them by so many in the community. May Dick rest in God’s love.

Cormier, Clevis James

Clevis James Cormier, also known as Mr C, passed away while surrounded by his family on January 13, 2024, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was born on October 15, 1958. Clevis was a landscape contractor/horticulturist and the proud owner of Mr C’s Complete Lawncare for approximately 30 years. His career was his passion, and he took great pride in his work. Clevis was a humble devoted family man who loved his wife of 45 years, Lisa; children, Erica (Daniel) Glynn, Whitney Cormier, and Matthew Cormier, as well as his grandchildren, Spencer Cormier, Emilie Glynn, Michaela Glynn, Addisyn Glynn, and Michael Belleau. He also leaves behind his mother, Nevis Cormier and his siblings, Janet (Larry) Smith, Cindy (Walt) Fairchild, and Doug (Cheryl) Cormier, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Clevis (C.J.) James Cormier Jr.; sister, Evelyn Andre; father, Elphege (Flooge) Cormier. In addition to his family, Clevis had a strong sense of community. He served as a member of Pointe Coupee Fire District 4 for 15 years, several of which he held the position of Fire Chief. He dedicated his time and efforts to ensuring the safety of his community. Clevis also had a passion for beekeeping and enjoyed tending to his bees. Clevis found solace and spiritual guidance at the First Baptist Church of New Roads, where he worshipped. The funeral services for Clevis was held at First Baptist Church of New Roads on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 from 9 a.m. until religious services at 12 noon. The interment followed in St. Frances Cabrini Cemetery in Livonia. Pallbearers were Matthew and Spencer Cormier, Daniel Glynn, Walt Fairchild, Brandon Gueho and Dwayne Prejean. Honorary pallbearers were MeMe Meche and Doug Cormier. Clevis will be deeply missed by his loved ones and the community he served. His kind and caring nature will forever be remembered. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Janell LaCombe Cancer Fund.

Schexnayder, James Rodney

James Rodney Schexnayder passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on January 4th, 2024, at the age of 86. Rodney was born and resided in Pointe Coupee, LA, and is survived by his children, Sharon (Adam) Feirman, Matthew (Marcela) Schexnayder, and Steven Schexnayder; grandchildren, Ross (Karen) Schexnayder, Carlie Feirman, Sailor Schexnayder, Triton Schexnayder, and Mateo Schexnayder; great-grandchildren Rhett Schexnayder and Sterling Schexnayder; his siblings Posie (Ray) Jarreau and Tony (Shirley) Schexnayder; and wife of 35 years, Gail Roberts. He is predeceased by his father, Francis Schexnayder Sr.; his mother, Ida Schexnayder (née Laurent); his siblings, Diane Schexnayder and Joe Schexnayder; and his children, Jim Rod Schexnayder and Melody Schexnayder.Rodney was raised on his family's farm on Pointe Coupee Road, went to school at St. Joseph in New Roads, and later attended LSU and USL. He participated in ROTC and received a B.S. in Agricultural Science. After some time farming, he worked at Crown Zellerbach and Exxon. He later followed his calling to become a builder, mak-ing construction his primary profession. Over his 40-year career, Rodney worked in both residential and commercial construction, completing several new and renovation projects throughout South Louisiana. He finished his career working as a construction inspector for Pointe Coupee, traveling and meeting with residents from all over the parish. He also taught Science and Shop at Batchelor High School and Pointe Coupee Central, two subjects he dearly enjoyed. People would often stop to thank him for building their homes or having hired them. Or they would fondly recall him being their teacher in school.Rodney loved working with his hands, and woodworking was his favorite hobby. He was passionate about all things science and had an insatiable curiosity and a love for innovation. Music made him happy, especially classic rhythm and blues by artists like Fats Domino. Even in his final days, he could recite the words to his favorite songs. Rodney strived to treat everyone fairly and embraced the virtues of balance, moderation, and harmony. He will be dearly missed and remembered for his joie de vivre, strong work ethic, and love for his family, friends, and community. A gathering will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at the Poydras Center gazebo. (500 W Main St, New Roads, LA.) Family is invited from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. It will be open to the public from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, the gathering will be held inside the Poydras Auditorium. A blessing of the tomb at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in New Roads will follow the gathering.

Catherine Cline Dupuy December 10, 1937 January 5, 2024 Catherine Cline Dupuy, a resident of Glynn, La died at her daughters home in Livonia. Catherine was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. She was a housewife, she loved to plant and grow flowers. She loved the LSU Tigers and the Dallas Cowboys. She loved her daily cup of coffee with her neighbors. Catherine will be missed and remembered by her daughter Melissa Bergeron (Beaux) of Livonia. Grandchildren and their spouses Kyle and Colby Bergeron Jr. of Glynn, La. Kayla Bergeron of Glynn, La. Candace and Trey Carroll of Batchelor, La. Brett Dupuy of Batchelor, La. Her great grandchildren, Mackenzie and Cayle Carroll. Kasen, Kannon, and Kimber Bergeron. Tucker and Sawyer Dupuy. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert E. Dupuy, Son John Keith Dupuy, Son-In-Law Kyle Bergeron Sr. Her parents William and Margaret Cline Sr., her brother Burnette ‘Toot,’ Robert, Russell, Adam, and William Jr. And her sisters, Rita Oubre and Lillie Ward. Pallbearers will be her Godchildren and Nephews, Gary Ward, Bobbie Cline. Nephews, Glynn Ray Cline, Danny Cline, Oubre and her Great Nephew Kerry Cline. The family would like to send a special thanks to Dr. Donald Doucet and his staff. Pointe Coupee Hospice and their staff. Her sitter and friend, Ms. Wanda Rowe. Visitation was at Nilands Funeral Home in New Roads, LA on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial followed at Immaculate Conception at 11:00 a.m. The burial was held in Chenal Mausoleum.

Margie Ann Poche Andre passed away on December 28, 2023 at the age of 87. She was born in Maringouin, La. and was a resident of Livonia, La. Margie is survived by her children, Barry Andre (Terri), Gary Andre (Michelle), Cary Andre (Liz); daughters-in-law, Jeanie Andre and Angela Andre; grandchildren, Melissa Hughes (Josh), Amy Giordano (Jason), Seth Andre (Kristan), Lauren Schneider (Stephen), Lucas Andre (Julianna), Lance Andre (Amanda), Logan Andre (Michelle), Ryan Andre, Trent Andre (Hailey) and Brooke Andre; great grandchildren, Gavin, Hallie Kate, Isabella, Hayes, Sophie, Landen, Baryn, Dre’, Ayden, Alaina, Sam and Alice; sister, Lois Marsh (John); brother, A.J. Poche (Arthurine) and numerous other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene “Sugarboy” Andre, Sr.; her sons, Eugene “Gene” Andre, Jr. and Mark “Red” Andre and her parents, Alvin and Isabelle Poche. Margie enjoyed raising her sons to the fullest. She was well known for her delectable desserts and would often donate her treats to church functions and fundraisers. In her later years, she spent her days with the love of her life, Sugarboy. You could often find them in their yard, taking in the sights and sounds of nature. Visitation was held at St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church in Livonia, La. on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at 11:00 a.m. Interment followed at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cemetery in Maringouin, La. Pallbearers were her grandsons. The family would like to thank all who have shown care and kindness in Margie’s last days.

Gros Jr., Francis 'Plugga' Ridley

Francis “Plugga” Ridley Gros Jr., a resident of Ventress, LA, passed away on January 1, 2024 at the age of 70. Plugga was a long time employee of Dow Chemical and Jacob’s Engineering where he worked as a Piping Design Manager. He retired after 45 years in the industry. Plugga was a founding member of Baton Rouge Parrothead Club- Loyal Order of Disorder. He was also a member of the Louisiana Pecan Conference Board, and The Mardi Gras King 2019, where he and his wife, Lona, were crowned King and Queen. Santa to all. Plugga loved and adored his family and friends, and always lived his life to the fullest. Plugga is survived by his wife of 25 years, Lona Spivey Gros; mother and fatherin- law, D.D. and Lois Spivey; son-in-law, Dane Babin; two stepchildren, John and Leigh Ann Greco; and numerous grandchildren. He had a special place in his heart for his brother, Kevin Gros and his cousin, Kathy DeShazo. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Rachel Gros Babin; and parents, Frank and Lorraine Gros. A visitation will be held at Niland’s Funeral Home in New Roads, LA on Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. until the memorial service in the funeral home parlor at 11:00 a.m.

Chustz, Louis "Oonie" Charles

Louis “Oonie” Charles Chustz, a resident of Erwinville, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at the age of 63. He enjoyed lifting weights and running. He was a kind-hearted, loving soul who would help anyone who needed it. Despite the trials and tribulations, he experienced in life, he always looked for the good in others. His absence will be felt by all who had the privilege to cross paths with him.
