Martin, Marjorie DeRogers

Marjorie DeRogers Martin, devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt passed away peacefully at Lakeview Manor Nursing Home, New Roads, Louisiana. On December 17,2023. Marjorie was born to Philip and Mary Edith DeRogers on February 12,1935. She was a native of Mix, Louisiana and a resident of New Roads Louisiana. Marjorie graduated from New Roads High School in New Roads, Louisiana. She retired as a nurse’s assistant with Pointe Coupee Home Health with over 25 years of service. Marjorie was united in Holy Matrimony to Louis Thomas Martin, Sr., and to this union three children were born. Marjorie was a faithful and lifelong member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. She was a member of The Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary Court #41 as well as a member of The Altar Society of St. Augustine Catholic Church, New Roads, Louisiana. She enjoyed dancing, listening to music and her favorite quote was “Tell it like it is”. Marjorie leaves to cherish her memory: three children: Beverly Martin, Quintin (Yvonne) Martin of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Louis (Terry) Martin Jr., of Ventress, Louisiana. Three sisters Doris Dundy, Ann Volta of New Roads, Louisiana and Mary Ellen Norwood of Ventress, Louisiana; six grandchildren: Krystyna, Emmanuel, Ezekiel (Delicia) Keri (Kendrick), Deanna, Skylus; twelve great-grandchildren; Logan, Kennedi, D’Andrew, Paislei, Tyren, Tiana, Emery, Kaliyah, Kymyra, Emmanuel Jr., Taylor, Nigel and Emmaleigh; a sister-in-law: Corinne Martin Leufory of Cerritos, California, a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Marjorie is preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Mary Edith Jacque DeRogers; her husband, Louis Thomas Martin Sr.; seven sisters and two brothers: Edna Smith, Hazel DeRogers, Eloise Brent, Agnes Gosserand, Mary Rose Celestine, Sadie Mae Gauthier and Catherine Spencer, Philip and Ferman DeRogers. Visitation will be held on January 3, 2024 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in New Roads, La. followed by a rosary at 10:30 a.m. and mass at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Reverend Joseph Benjamin SSI, pastor. Thank you sincerely for your kind and loving expressions of sympathy. Special thank you to Station A of the Lakeview Manor Nursing Home and Pointe Coupee Hospice for their great care of our Mother. May God continue to bless each of you. Please continue to pray for us and we will do the same for you.

LeBlanc, Sister Dorothy Cecilia

Sister Dorothy Cecilia LeBlanc (formerly Sister Mary Andrew), a Sister of St. Joseph for 80 years, entered eternal life at Mt. St. Mary Convent in Wichita, KS on December 3, 2023 at the age of 97. Sr. Dorothy was born on June 26, 1926 in Baton Rouge, LA to the late Andrew Leland LeBlanc and Marie Margaret Stanley. Sr. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Andrew, Jr., Francis, and her sisters Ann Marie Conner and Theresa Terrio. Sr. Dorothy is survived by several nieces and nephews. Sr. Dorothy graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Baton Rouge, LA in 1943 and entered the Sisters of St. Joseph on September 8, 1943. She professed final vows on August 15, 1948. Sr. Dorothy graduated from Loyola University in New Orleans with a B.S. in Education. She received a M.S. in Chemistry from Notre Dame University and a M.R.E. in Religious Education from Loyola University. Sr. Dorothy received her Clinical Pastoral Training from Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans. Sr. Dorothy’s years of ministry and service in education began in 1945 at St. Rose of Lima School in New Orleans where she later served as Principal. Her teaching assignments included St. Joseph Academy in Bay St. Louis, St. Joseph Academy in New Orleans, St. Rita School in Harahan, St. Joseph Parochial as teacher and principal and St. Joseph Academy in Baton Rouge, Pointe Coupee Catholic and Rosenwald Public High school in New Roads, LA. Sr. Dorothy’s last teaching assignment was at O’Connell High School in Galveston, Texas. Sr. Dorothy then served as staff member of Casa Esperanza Refuge for Children and Mothers in Houston, Texas. She served for six years as Senior Coordinator of Lourdes Community Center in New Orleans. For the next five years Sr. Dorothy served as caregivers for the Sisters of St. Joseph at Our Lady of Wisdom Healthcare in New Orleans. Following Hurricane Katrina, Sr. Dorothy moved to Wichita, Kansas to care for Sisters at Mount St. Mary, Wichita Kansas. Sr. Dorothy was a regular participant in Kairos retreats for women in prison in Louisiana and Kansas. In 2018 Sr. Dorothy retired and continued to serve by her presence and prayer ministry in Marian Hall at Mount St. Mary. Homecoming and Rosary was at Mt. St. Mary Resurrection Chapel on Monday, December 11, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. with Wake Service at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Resurrection followed by internment was held on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 in Resurrection Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Memorials in her name may be sent to the Congregation of St. Joseph Retirement Fund, Dear Neighbor Ministries, Inc. or StepStone Ministries, Inc. at 3700 E. Lincoln St., Wichita, KS 67218.

Kauffman, Joy Bueche

Joy Bueche Kauffman, a native of Baton Rouge and longtime resident of Ventress, passed away at Pointe Coupee General Hospital in New Roads on Friday, December 1, 2023, at 12:20 a.m. at the age of 83. She was the most loving mother, grandmother, and greatgrandmother. She was a caregiver to many for most of her adult life. Reading books was a lifelong passion, but her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren are what she lived for. Family was everything to her. She was very close to her granddaughter, Amanda. They had a very close and special relationship. Most Friday nights, you could find her at a Catholic High School of Pointe Coupee football game cheering them on from the fence. She is survived by her daughter, Katrina Bouquet Amacker, who took loving care of her until the end; sons, Reed Bueche, Jr. (Denise) and Kenneth Kauffman, Jr.; grandchildren, Jamie LeBlanc (Jaime), Randy Bouquet, Darren Bueche (Sarah), Amanda Bueche (Emily) and Trey Kauffman; six beautiful great-grandchildren that she loved dearly, Aiden LeBlanc, Kaden Jarreau, Kendall LeBlanc, Blaine LeBlanc, Blayr Bueche and Lyla Bueche; and her best friend and close companion, her dog Bailey. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Reed Buech, Sr.; second husband, Kenneth Kauffman; son-inlaw, Ron Amacker; parents, Earl Davis, Sr. and Marie S. Davis; stepmother, Leona K. Davis; brothers, Earl Davis, Jr., Stanley E. Davis, James H. Davis, Burnell M. Davis and sister, Mae D. Dedon. We would like to thank Dr. Paul Rachal for all of the wonderful care over the years and for being there at the end when she needed him most. We would also like to thank the great nurses and doctors at Pointe Coupee General Hospital and Hospice.

Victor Mougeot

Victor Mougeot passed away at the age of 85 on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Pointe Coupee General Hospital with his daughter and granddaughter by his side. He was born on May 23, 1938 to Frank Sr. and Marie Mougeot and resided in Ventress, Louisiana where he raised his five children. Later in life, Victor moved to Lettsworth, Louisiana until 2016 where he would spend the rest of his life in a nursing home facility. Throughout his life Victor was employed as a carpenter, was co-owner of Mougeot’s Grocery & Meat Market and was a cattle farmer. His love of the outdoors was evident to all. He spent many years hunting at Old Miss and Sugarland Hunting Clubs as well as fishing at his camp in Cocodrie, Louisiana. Victor was a fighter and “give up” wasn’t in his vocabulary until the very end and he is no longer suffering. Victor is survived by his daughter Vicki Cannon (Lester), and son Blaine Mougeot (Shonda), grandchildren Celeste Mougeot (Scott Clark), Shane Shivers, Randi Boykin (Coty) and Kelsey Mougeot, great grandchildren Charlee Ann Clark, Mako Boykin, and Allie Claire Fabre. He is also survived by his siblings Debbie Landry (Butte), Paul Mougeot, Tess Mohr (Bill), and Catherine Cline (Lester), son in law Randi Shivers, daughter in law Corie Mougeot and sister in law Bernadette Mougeot. He is preceded in death by his former wife Rita “Smokey” Mougeot, children Patrick “Tuggie” Mougeot, Greg Mougeot and Diana “Nervie” Shivers as well as his siblings Daniel Mougeot, Frank Mougeot Jr., and Tammie Mougeot. Visitation was held at Niland’s Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, from 9:00 am – 11:00 pm followed by services at Niland’s. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at Pointe Coupee General Hospital as well the nurses and caregivers at Lakeview Manor Nursing Home. Also, thanks to his favorite caregivers at Pointe Coupee Healthcare.

Ovide Jarreau, Jr

Ovide Jarreau, Jr., age 83, born September 29, 1940 passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 peacefully at his home in Ventress, La. Ovide was a loving and devoted husband, father grandfather and great grandfather. He was a Commercial and Industrial painter for 55 years. He enjoyed swamp pop music, dancing, camping, fishing and spending time with his family and friends and making people laugh. Survivors include children: Becky Chustz and Paul, Debbie Henderson, Michael Jarreau and Joseph Chenevert. Sisters: Ida Chustz and Rowena St.Romain. Grandchildren: Joshua Roy and Ginger, Casey Roy and Bailey, Amanda Gammon and Kevin, Michelle Stone and Robby, Brandi David and Christian, Kaitlyn Chenevert, Ray and Evan Jarreau. Along with numerous relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother and father: Melicie and Ovide Jarreau, Sr., his wife of 53 yrs. Bobbie, Brothers; Wickliffee and Dolze Jarreau, Sisters: Addie David and Marie Ballard. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Niland’s Funeral Home in New Roads from 8:00am to 9:45am. Mass of a Christian Burial will be held at St.Mary’s Catholic Church in New Roads at 10 am. Pallbearers: Michael Jarreau, Larry Guerin, Jr. Dale Guerin, Brian Castjohn, Joshua Roy Casey Roy and honorary pallbearer Joseph Chenevert. Interment will be in False River Memorial Park Cemetery. The family would like to recognize the Pointe Coupee Hospice staff and Alexis Whatley, RN. Battley, Betty Mae

Betty Mae Battley, 79, a loving mother, native of New Roads and resident of Baton Rouge went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, November 27, 2023. Visitation will be held at Greater St. Peter Baptist Church 913 Singletary St. New Roads, La. on Saturday Dec. 2, 1pm-2pm, directly followed by the Celebration of Life Service. Interment at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery 14905 LA-417 Batchelor, La. Repass will be held at the River House Center 714 New Roads Street New Roads. Betty was born on October 6, 1944, to the late Harris and Peacola Dailey Reams in Morganza, Louisiana, she was the fourth of five children. The family lived on a farm on Normandy Lane in Batchelor. In 1960, the family later moved to New Roads. Betty graduated from Rosenwald High School in 1965. She met Jeffery Battley and they were married on August 28, 1965. Together, they had four children, Jeffery Patrick, Felicia, Cathy, and Andrea. Betty was a quiet, yet strong mother. She primarily raised her children as a single mother in a very humble environment. She was the constant for her children. She lived in New Roads until 2018 when she moved to Baton Rouge with her youngest daughter and family. Betty enjoyed the ‘stories’, game shows, and solving word puzzles. She was a member of Greater St. Peter Baptist Church. She is survived by her children, Jeffery Patrick “Bodeen” Battley, and partner Ashley Oakley, Felicia Battley Beverly, Cathy Battley, and life partner Mark Phillip Saizon, Andrea Denien Ducre and spouse Edward John Ducre, her sister Marilyn Reams Milton (John Riley), 12 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and a host of nieces and nephews. Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Harris and Peacola Reams, husband, Jeffery Battley, her siblings, Elizabeth Reams Dailey, Harris Reams, Florence Reams McGhee, Mary Reams Jones, her granddaughter, Paige Victorian, and her son-in-law, David Beverly. A. Hamilton Platinum Funeral Service of Baton Rouge oversees the arrangements.

LeBlanc, Bonnie Sue Aguillard

Bonnie Sue Aguillard LeBlanc of Chenal, was born on May 20, 1938, and died November 19, 2023. She was a 1956 graduate of Rougon High School and a 1960 graduate of USL in elementary education. Bonnie married Floyd Gerald LeBlanc Sr., in 1960, and together they raised 5 children. For the majority of her teaching career, she taught at False River Academy. Bonnie, also known as “Sue” to close family, enjoyed retirement by doting on her grandchildren, singing in the church choir, volunteering with the church food bank, and sewing baptismal bibs. During her spare time, she enjoyed art lessons and reading mysteries, both of which she obtained from the local Rougon Public Library. Bonnie was more recently known by many as the “fish lady” on Facebook’s La Cuisine de Pointe Coupee due to her love of eating fried fish no matter where she dined.Bonnie is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Floyd Sr., (died 2002), their baby daughter, Rebecca Ellen (died 1963), and her parents, Clarence and Winnie (Olinde) Aguillard. She is survived by four of her children, Todd LeBlanc, Floyd LeBlanc Jr., “Jerry” (Candice), Gina Hymel (Brian), and Timothy LeBlanc Sr., (Rachel); 8 grandchildren, Ashley LeBlanc, Erin LeBlanc, Elizabeth Sanford (Kevin), Mary Kathryn Whitehead “Katie” (Benjamin), Emily LeBlanc, Alexander Hymel (Lauren), Chelsea LeBlanc (Hunter Webber), and Timothy LeBlanc Jr., “Timmy” (Katelyn), and nine great-grandchildren, Reese Fauveau, Eric Paul Fauveau III, “Remy”, Sutton Myers, Easton LeBlanc, Cooper Whitehead, Leighton Hymel, Lucas Hymel, Sarah Craig, and Caroline Craig. The family would like to thank Tina Bradley for the love and care she provided for Mom over the past six years. A visitation will be held in Bonnie’s honor at Niland’s Funeral Home in New Roads on November 27, from 6:00 to 9:00 and on November 28 from 8:30-10:30. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 11:30. Burial will follow at the Chenal Cemetery.

Caillet, Madeleine Bouanchaud

Madeleine Bouanchaud Caillet, 81, of Oscar, LA, passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Lakeland, LA, with Reverends Matt Lorrain and Tom Duhe officiating. A burial will follow in the Chenal Cemetery, Jarreau, LA. Visitation was held at Niland’s Funeral Home, New Roads, on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. through 12:00 noon. Madeleine Bouanchaud Caillet graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy, New Roads, LA, and attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana (USL). She was a teacher and the Director of Religious Education at Immaculate Conception Church. She served on the Board of Directors of the Bank of New Roads and on the Pointe Coupee Parish Election Supervisors Board for many years. She lived in her beloved family home in Oscar most of her life. She will be fondly remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother with an incredible sense of faith and humor and an immense love for her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alcide Bouanchaud and Eloise Major Evans, her stepfather, Frank Evans, her cousin, Natalie Thibaut Comeaux and her aunt, Gertrude “Bootie” Hebert. She is survived by her four children, Craig (Colleen) Caillet, Yvette (Craig) Magruder, Stacey (Scott) Devillier, Frank (Andree’) Caillet, her eleven grandchildren, Andrew, Kelly and Kate Caillet, Brandon (Leah) Magruder, Clayton Magruder, Garrett (Sydney) Magruder, Tyler and Abbey Devillier, Celeste, Camille and Blake Caillet, her five great-grandchildren, Audrey Tuminello, Evans and Claire Magruder, Colter and Hallie Magruder, her aunt, Lillie “Pigeon” Thibaut and many cousins and friends. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and her oldest great-grandson. The family would like to thank her trusted doctor, Dr. Doucet, for his care over the years. Bonnette, Loretta Magdalen 'Magda' Lieux

Loretta Magdalen “Magda” Lieux Bonnette passed peacefully the morning of November 8, 2023, with the love of her family surrounding her. Born February 15, 1935 in New Roads to Azema Lorio and Joseph Bertrand “Bert” Lieux, she was the eighth child of eleven. Magda graduated from St. Joseph Academy as valedictorian in 1953 and Louisiana State University in 1957 with her bachelor’s degree in Home Economics Education. She also served as president of her sorority, Delta Zeta. Magda married John Charles “Charlie” Bonnette and had three children, Mary Frances “Fran” Bonnette Smith Holte (Lorie), Charlene Elizabeth Bonnette, and John Lewis Bonnette II (Sarah). After 21 years as a military wife and member of the Officer’s Wives’ Association and chairing numerous committees during her husband’s years of active duty, the family settled in New Roads, Magda’s home town. She was a long-standing member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and The Reading Circle. Magda was a dedicated parishioner of St. Mary of False River, serving on numerous committees from 1980 to 2010. She was President of the Altar Society from 1992-2009, Lead Coordinator of St. Mary Service Center during the 1980s and 1990s, and a Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion until a few years ago. Magda loved her family, especially her two grandchildren, Scott L. Smith, Jr. (Ashton) and Thomas C. Bonnette, and her six great-grandchildren, Lucy, Charlie, Elijah, Elizabeth, Jude, and Benedict Smith. She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and nine brothers and sisters: Bert (Shirley), Frances (Levy), Lucille (Gene), Ted (Mary Alice), Sister Beth, Sister Bert, Charles, Edward (Meredith), and John (Laverne). She is survived by her children, brother Ralph Lieux, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Congregation of Saint Joseph, Mount St. Mary Convent, 3700 East Lincoln, Wichita, Kansas 67218-2099, 316686-7171 (https://csjoseph. org/). Angelle, John Edgar

John Edgar Angelle, a native of Port Barre, La and a resident of Ventress, La, went to meet his Lord and Savior on November 12, 2023 at the age of 90. John was a Corporal in the United States Army and served from 1953 – 1955 in the Korean War where he was stationed in Alaska. During his time in the Army he would work as an engineer building bridges and roads, working as a heavy equipment and Crane operator, cutting hair, along with his other duties. After being honorably discharged, John went on to work for Nichols Construction as an Engineer Crane Operator where he was highly skilled and recommended. With his skills in his job, he would travel the world before he would retire. Later in life, John would go on to have his own family crawfishing farm. He enjoyed his time on the farm, building fences and raising cattle amongst other things. When he wasn’t on the farm, he spent time out camping and dancing. At the end of the day and amongst all of his qualities, his greatest was that he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. John is survived by his children, Patrick Angelle (Tammie), Karon A. Thayer (John), Janet A. Gremillion-Chester (Edwin), and Carolyn A. Snyder (Ron); grandchildren, Nicholas, Callet, Angelle, Holly, Lacee, and Hunter; great grandchildren, Haylee, Renee, Julianne, Nathan, Hannah, Lydia, Felicity, Sterling, Ruby, and Jackson; his longtime girlfriend, Evelina; his beloved puppy, Tommy Boy and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and loved ones. He is preceded in death by his parents, Josephine and John Angelle; wife, Ruby Lee Angelle; siblings, Alton Angelle, Amy Stoute, Werdna Angelle, Esther James, and Shirin Young. The visitation will be held at First Baptist Church in New Roads, La on Thursday, November 16, 2023 from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon. The religious services will be held at 12:00 noon. The burial will follow in False River Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Hunter Snyder, Stephen Branscum, Junior Muse, Dwayne Muse, Ed James, and Ricky Credo. Special thanks to the Doctors and staff at Our Lady of The Lake, Hospice of Baton Rouge, Megan Wilson and Christina Angelle for all of their care and help.
