Posted

Ovide DeSoto, 91, a longtime resident of New Roads, Louisiana, passed away peacefully at his home on July 1, 2026. He was born in Jacoby, Louisiana, on August 16, 1934, to William DeSoto and Nettie Rogers DeSoto.
Mr. DeSoto made New Roads his home beginning in 1965 and was known for his warm, welcoming nature—he never met a stranger and always had an entertaining story to share. He was quick to invite anyone in for a cup of coffee, offering conversation and friendship with ease. He and his late wife, Virginia Landry DeSoto, were avid antique collectors who shared a deep appreciation for history. Together, they worked to preserve the character and heritage of their home, filling it with pieces that reflected their love of the past.
A veteran of the United States Army, Mr. DeSoto carried the values of service and dedication throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia; and his brother, James DeSoto. He is survived by his three children: Ovide DeSoto Jr. of Zachary, Louisiana; Michael DeSoto of New Roads; and Christi Miglicco of Ozark, Missouri. He also leaves behind his grandchildren—Lauren, Katy, and Hannah—and his great grandchildren.
A private family graveside service was held on July 6.
